The installation of treadmills makes it possible for the crew to move around the ship and still maintain a strong fixed connection to the ship at all times. Unfortunately, this vital part of the system is often installed in a less professional manner.

We bring to your attention the following basic rules:

• A treadmill must be attached to a strong point, which has been specially made for this purpose.

• These points must be secured through the deck with a sub-deck base plate. The load capacity must be at least 3,000 kg.

• A treadmill must be free of knots and the stitching must be sufficiently strong and tested. The treadmill should be placed as far in the center of the ship as possible to prevent falling overboard.

• Tires are safer than ropes because they do not roll away when stepped on. Treadmills are also subject to aging through use, seawater and UV radiation.

We advise not to leave them on deck, to rinse them with fresh water before storing them and to dry them well. During the winter we recommend storing them in a dry place. We also recommend that you replace the treadmills regularly; they should be replaced if they have been exposed to the outside air for 2 years
